We will be discussing the differences
in figure and ground, cubism, and non-objective art.

Shapes
are the external form of someone or something. Above
is a Photoshop illustration of a few geometric shapes. When using shapes in art you need to understand the
difference in Figure, Form and Ground.
Figure/ Ground
|
Figure
is defined as a shape that is noticeable separated from the ground
(background). Figure is the object being emphasized in the art work. Ground is
the background which emphasizes the figure. The grass is the background, and
the baseball team is the figure(s).
Cubism

Cubism
incorporates viewpoints
of natural forms into a multifaceted surface of geometrical planes
Non-Objective Art
In
this painting the artist makes no reference to any real object or person. That is
known as non-objective art. This allows the meaning behind an artwork to
be open to interpretation.
